This guide explains how to create, modify and delete Serial Number Definitions.

Serial Numbers provide unique identifiers specified by a Definition or a Pool. While the Definition is made up of one or more rules how the Serial Numbers are calculated, the Pool is a simple predefined list. Either a Definition or Pool has to be provided before the Serial Number can be used as an Attribute in an Entity Type. From the perspective of the Entity Type, Definition and Pool are equal in the sense that they can be used exactly the same.

Create a Serial Number Definition

1. Navigate to the Serial Number Definitions by clicking on Administration > DATA > Serial Numbers
2. Click on Create new definition
3. In the Serial Number Editor you can define a new Serial Number Definition:
4. You have to enter a Name that is unique within the Novunex Subscription
5. Enter a Description so that Users understand the purpose of this Serial Number Definition
6. Define the Serial Number either by using either a Definition or a Pool:
   • Definition:
     • Add sections by clicking Add section
     • Select the type of the section
     • Configure the section as described in the General Reference
   • Pool:
     • Enter the Serial Numbers manually by pressing Add serial number, or
     • Upload a file with the Serial Numbers in it by pressing Add serial number
7. Optionally, the Serial Number Definition can be masked by entering a format string in the field Format
8. You can finish your work by:
   • Discard your changes by clicking Cancel
   • Save changes by clicking Save & close
   • Or save changes by clicking on Save or Save as….

Modify a Serial Number Definition

1. Navigate to the Serial Number Definitions by clicking on Administration > DATA > Serial Numbers
2. Click on in row of the Serial Number Definition you want to modify and click on Edit
3. In the Serial Number Editor you can modify the Serial Number Definition:
   • Change the Name, but keep in mind that it has to be unique within the Novunex Subscription
   • Change the mask by altering the format string in the field Format
   • Change the Description
   • Modify the Definition or the Pool:
     • Add, rearrange, change or delete the sections of the Definition
     • Add, rearrange, change or delete the entries in the Pool
4. You can finish your work by:
   • Discard your changes by clicking Cancel
   • Save changes by clicking Save & close
   • Or save changes by clicking on Save or Save as….

Delete a Serial Number Definition

1. Navigate to the Serial Number Definitions by clicking on Administration > DATA > Serial Numbers
2. Click on in row of the Serial Number Definition you want to delete
3. Click Delete
4. Confirm by clicking Yes, delete it!
